Beijing--(Business Wire)--The 17thChina International Petroleum & Petrochemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition (cippe2017)will beheld at the New China International Exhibition Center in Beijing on March 20-22, 2017, with an exhibition area of up to 100,000㎡ to accommodate thousands of booths, including 18 international pavilions, of exhibitors from more than 65 countries and regions. This time, shale gas will be one of the highlights of cippe2017.
The global reserves of unconventional gas are 8.5 times those of conventional gas. Benefiting from the technological breakthroughs in shale gas development, shale gas has become the most consumed gas in U.S. China is the first country beyond North America to make large-scale commercial production, and will become the largest shale gas supplier in future only second to U.S. Experts estimate that shale gas will be a significant contributor to the increase of China’s natural gas output over the next 20 years.
According to China’s shale gas development plan issued by the National Energy Administration, four national shale gas demonstration zones will be established, namely Changning-Weiyuan, Zhaotong, Fuling and Yan’an. During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-2020), the Chinese government will continue deploying fiscal subsidies to the shale gas industry, aiming to lift the shale gas production to 30 billion m3 by the end of 2020. According to the plan, Changning-Weiyuan and Zhaotong will achieve an annual output of 4 billion m3 by 2020. Shale gas development will also accelerate the development of related industries such as transportation, steel, materials, equipment, cement and chemistry, while attracting domestic and international investments to boost sustainable economic development.
Despite a promising prospect, the Chinese shale gas industry is facing technical bottlenecks in areas of shale gas reservoir evaluation, horizontal well drilling and completion, yield stimulation, and gas-reservoir engineering. Innovation and technical upgrade is urgently needed to guarantee its future growth.
In addition, the ahead-of-schedule entry into force of Paris Agreement, an agreement dealing with climate change to be formally effective from November 4, 2016, indicates the active attitude of all nations in tackling the climate change. The validation of the Paris Agreement will see a surge of demand for low-carbon technologies and innovation, and bring forward more opportunities to address climate issues. The shale gas development and utilization will become the booster for low-carbon strategic economic development, as well as a catalyst for the restructuring of the world oil-gas geopolitics.
All in all, while the Chinese shale gas market needs a stage to show its great potential, the Chinese shale gas enterprises also demand an international platform to seek a set of customized equipment and technologies that better fit China’s geological conditions. In this case, cippe2017 comes at the right time to provide a platform for shale gas exploration, exploitation, storage and utilization equipment enterprises.
